Having a tattoo lasered away: how does it work?
The process of getting tattoos lasered begins with a free consultation, in which we evaluate your skin and the tattoo. A treatment plan is then created that is tailored to your needs, skin and the ink colors of your tattoo.
Using the Quanta Q-Plus Evo C laser, the ink particles in your tattoo are pulverized, allowing your body to dispose of them naturally. This type of laser is particularly effective for lasering away a wide range of ink colors and skin types.
We make sure it is as comfortable as possible to laser away your tattoo using skin cooling.
Between each session, we keep an interval of about eight weeks to allow your skin to recover and respond optimally to the treatment.
Intake interview
The treatment process begins with a comprehensive and personalized intake interview. Based on this conversation, we draw up a treatment plan.
Treatment
Laser treatment is a relatively quick procedure and we set it up as comfortably as possible.
Return
The body needs time to dispose of the ink particles. Therefore, additional treatments are needed.
Aftercare
Aftercare is crucial for a beautiful result. That's why we provide you with detailed instructions.
The Quanta Q-Plus Evo C Laser
If you are considering having your tattoo removed, it is important to understand how the laser works as well as what to expect from it. The Quanta Q-Plus Evo C is a versatile and powerful Q-switched laser known for its effectiveness with different ink colors.
How does the Q-Plus Evo C work?
The Quanta Q-Plus Evo C uses ultrashort pulses of light to pulverize the ink particles in your skin. Thanks to multiple wavelengths (694 nm, 532 nm and 1064 nm), this laser can target not only black, but also more difficult colors such as red, blue and green. After treatment, your immune system gradually clears away the broken ink particles.
How many treatments are required to laser away a tattoo?
Tattoo removal almost never happens in one session. The number of treatments depends on:
- the most important factor, ink: what ink and what was mixed with it
- depth of the ink in the skin (thick alignment contains more ink than e.g. a fineline tattoo or shading)
- own drainage system
Ink particles are disposed of by your own immune system, and that process is not the same for everyone. Your body needs time to remove ink step by step. The longer you wait between treatments, the more ink disappears.
This means you get the best results with a well-planned treatment schedule. So schedule an intake appointment in time to ensure the best results and get concrete answers to all your questions!

Does tattoo laser removal hurt?
Most people experience laser tattooing as different and usually more intense than tattooing. The feeling is often described as a very quick, hot prick or the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. So it is not exactly pleasant, but the big advantage is that a laser session is much shorter than a tattoo session, often only a few minutes.
As you can see in the sample videos of our consultations, comfort is very important to us at Bodyclear. That’s why we work with powerful skin cooling to soften the sharp sensation as much as possible. We also take the time to do the treatment at your pace. That way we keep the discomfort to a minimum, and you can begin your removal process with confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions
Specifically, the price for tattoo removal starts from €95 per session.
The cost of tattoo removal depends on the size, color and location of your tattoo. During your free consultation we will discuss a personal plan and corresponding price. So you know immediately where you stand.
The complete removal of a tattoo with laser therapy is possible in many cases, but the result depends on several factors.
Elements such as the colors of the tattoo, the ink types used, the depth of the ink in the skin, the size of the tattoo and its location on the body all play a role. Dark colors, such as black and dark blue, generally respond better to laser treatments than lighter colors such as yellow and green.
At Bodyclear, advanced laser equipment is used to remove tattoos effectively and safely. Multiple sessions are often required to completely remove the tattoo. During a free consultation, a thorough analysis of your skin and tattoo is performed to create a personalized treatment plan.
This varies per tattoo, but on average a tattoo is completely removed in 8 sessions. During the free consultation we will give you an exact indication and a personal treatment plan.
With each session, the ink in your tattoo will gradually fade away, until the tattoo eventually disappears completely. The speed of the entire process depends on several factors, including the amount of ink used, your skin type, the colors of the tattoo, the quality of the ink and the depth of the tattoo.
It is important to note that your body’s response to tattoo laser treatment may differ from others. Therefore, you may need slightly more or fewer treatments than someone else to achieve the desired end result.
At Bodyclear, we understand that each individual is unique, which is why we will work with you to create a treatment plan specific to your tattoo and skin type. Our expert team will guide and advise you to ensure that you get the best results from your tattoo removal.
Compared to getting a tattoo, tattoo removal is generally perceived as slightly more uncomfortable. People often describe it as a tingling or prickling sensation on the skin. It can feel more intense than the placement of the tattoo itself, but the good news is that the treatment is over quickly.
At Bodyclear, we understand that comfort during treatment is important. That’s why we offer skin cooling to minimize discomfort. Our dedicated team will do everything possible to make your Bodyclear experience as comfortable as possible, so you can begin your tattoo removal with confidence.
Disclaimer: Pain experience is a very subjective feeling and varies from person to person. It is difficult to give an unequivocal answer to this question because perceptions of pain vary widely.

Intake interview
The treatment process begins with a comprehensive and personalized intake session. During this session we discuss:
- Your needs and expectations: What is your goal with the tattoo removal? Is it about complete removal or lightening for a cover-up
- Analysis of your tattoo: We carefully assess the size, the colors used, the depth of the ink and the age of the tattoo. These factors determine the number of sessions required, the final cost and effectiveness.
- Skin Analysis: Our specialist analyzes your skin type to determine the most appropriate laser settings and rule out any contraindications.
- Explaining the process: We explain the laser technology, how it works on the ink particles and what to expect during and after treatment.
- Customized treatment plan: Based on the analysis, we prepare a personalized treatment plan, including an estimate of the number of sessions needed and the associated costs.
- Answering questions: This is the time to ask all your questions. We will make sure you are fully informed and comfortable before we proceed.
Preparing to remove the tattoo
Prior to any laser session, proper preparation is essential for your safety and the effectiveness of the treatment:
- Sun avoidance: Protect the area to be treated from direct sunlight at least 4-6 weeks before the session and do not use self-tanners. Sun-tanned skin can cause pigmentation disruption.
- Skin clean: On the day of treatment, make sure the skin is clean, free of makeup, lotions or creams.
- No blood thinners: Consult with your specialist or physician about stopping blood-thinning medication (if medically justified) prior to the session to minimize bruising.
The laser treatment itself
The actual laser treatment is a relatively quick procedure:
- Protection: You will be given special glasses to protect your eyes from the laser light.
- Cooling: To maximize comfort and protect the skin, the treatment area is cooled, often with a special chiller or ice packs.
- Laser Application: Our specialist aims the laser at the tattoo. The laser emits short, powerful pulses of light that break down the ink particles into tiny fragments.
- Feeling: The sensation during treatment is often described as rubber bands shooting against the skin or quick, sharp pricks. Most people tolerate the treatment well, but the intensity can vary by person and body part.
- Immediate response: Immediately after the laser pulse, the tattoo will turn white (“frosting”), which lasts for several minutes. There may also be some redness and swelling, similar to sunburn.
Multiple laser treatments
Step 5: Multiple Sessions Needed
Tattoo ink is located in several layers of skin and the body needs time to dispose of the broken-down ink particles:
- Interval: Between each session there is a recovery period that averages 6 to 8 weeks. This gives your body time to drain the ink and allow the skin to fully recover.
- Number of sessions: The exact number of sessions varies greatly by tattoo and person, depending on factors such as the age of the tattoo, the colors used, the ink type, the depth of the ink, the location on the body and your immune system. On average, 6 to 12 sessions are required for complete removal.
Gradual fading: You will notice that the tattoo gradually lightens after each session.
Aftercare tattoo removal
Aftercare is crucial for optimal recovery and results:
- Cooling and protection: After the session, the treated area is again cooled and covered with a sterile bandage to protect the skin.
- Home Care: You will receive detailed instructions for follow-up care at home, including:
- Keeping the area clean and dry.
- Cool regularly to reduce swelling.
- Applying a restorative ointment as advised.
- Sun avoidance is essential; always use a high SPF (factor 50) on the treated area, even if it is cloudy.
- What to expect: Blistering, crusting, slight swelling and itching may occur in the days following treatment. This is a normal reaction of the body and part of the healing process. Do not scratch scabs or blisters to prevent scarring.
